Untreated or pre-finished panels – which should you choose?

Choose untreated wood panels if you want to customize the surface yourself and value the natural look of wood. They are perfect for creative DIY projects, sauna interiors, or homes where you want to carefully define colors and textures.

Choose pre-finished panels if you want speed, convenience, and a ready-made surface for walls or ceilings. They’re ideal when time is limited or when you want a consistent, professional result.

All CENT wood panels are easy to handle and install yourself.

Tips for successful paneling

  • measure carefully and create a clear installation plan.
  • it reacts to temperature and humidity—both a strength and something to account for.
  • paint, wax, or oil panels to match your color scheme.
  • turn them into trays, wall art, or decorative accents.

CENT wood panel installation – step by step

1. Preparation

  • Ensure the surface is dry, straight, and clean.
  • Let panels acclimatize indoors for 2–5 days.
  • Measure the area and order a little extra material.

2. Direction & battens

  • Horizontal panels make a room look wider, vertical panels highlight height.
  • Install battens (e.g. 22 x 45 mm) opposite to panel
direction to allow airflow, especially for ceilings and exterior walls.
  • Recommended spacing: ~600 mm.

3. Installation methods

  • Nailing/screwing through the tongue – discreet and
    durable.
  • Panel clips – easy to use, allow for wood movement.
  • Adhesive – only for lightweight panels on smooth
    surfaces, with elastic wood glue.

4. Starting & progressing

  • Begin in a corner or less visible spot.
  • Leave a 5–10 mm expansion gap at walls and ceilings.
  • Check alignment regularly with a level or laser.

5. Finishing

  • Cover edges with trim.
  • Panels can be treated with oil, wax, paint, or lacquer
    (preferably before installation).

Maintenance – keeping panels beautiful and durable

1. Cleaning

  • Wipe with a dry or lightly damp cloth.
  • Avoid excess water.
  • Use a soft brush or vacuum with brush nozzle for dust.

2. Renewing the finish

  • Painted panels: use breathable wood paint; repaint by
lightly sanding and applying a new coat.
  • Lacquered panels: durable but may yellow; renew by sanding and recoating.
  • Oiled panels: reapply every 1–2 years or as needed; sand lightly if worn.
  • Waxed panels: renew as required, especially in high-wear or damp areas.

3. Special care in damp spaces

  • Treat sauna and wet-area panels with sauna protection oil or paraffin oil.
  • Avoid film-forming finishes (e.g. regular paint) on panels
    exposed to constant moisture.
