A dull bathroom was transformed into a modern, radiant spa ensemble with the help of CENT, Netrauta, and several other Finnish ecological product brands. The renovation master was Perttu Sirviö.
TV and radio host Sami Kuronen asked Netrauta to help realize his dream bathroom. The schedule was tight: everything had to be ready during a three-week filming trip. The sauna is one of the most important places in the apartment for Kuronen
Sami Kurosen's idea for the bathroom renovation started from a bathroom renewal commissioned by his colleague, radio host Tuukka “Tuke” Ritokoski .
– Netrauta has more variety than you can think of, Ritokoski tells Kuronen.
Kuronen states he is a ponderer who needs fire and background support for his plans. The professionals at Netrauta Mikko Heikura and Päivi Nieminen proved to be a suitable support team. The renovation schedule for the bathroom and sauna of Kurosen's house built in 2004 was tight: only 3.5 weeks.
Renovation master Perttu Sirviö and interior designer Piia Lankinen visit Kurosen's home in the first episode of the Dream Bathroom TV show, where Kuronen shares his wishes.
– The dream is quite a dark color scheme, it can even be completely black or dark gray, indirect lighting, and a calming spa atmosphere, Kuronen says and continues:
– The sauna is worn because I sauna every night. It has already seen its best days. Here I wash away all the day's things; this is one of the most important places in the apartment.
CENT's wood products in Kurosen's bathroom and sauna
The wood surfaces of the sauna and bathroom renovation are entirely CENT's handiwork from Kalajoki. The ceilings of both spaces were clad with thermally treated aspen slats. The stylish and very well-lit sauna received wall paneling made of transparent black-treated, knot-free alder. The dark wood harmonizes excellently with the bathroom's dark tile wall.
For the benches, under the guidance of interior designer Riia Lankinen, high-quality radiata pine was chosen, whose beautiful grain pattern is highlighted by the wood protection treatment. Radiata pine is resin-free, non-toxic, and its surface remains flawless even in intense sauna heat.
Additionally, the space's finishing includes Hiili shadow molding, CENT trim board, and CENT shadow molding.
The slat made from thermally treated aspen is a striking, lively, and stylish choice for Sami's bathroom.

Ecological material choices at the center
Sami Kurosen's bathroom and sauna renovation was planned and executed based on sustainable construction – only environmentally friendly and ecological brands were chosen.
Sami said he wanted to support domestic expertise and sustainable choices with his material selections and hoped that environmental values would also be considered in the planning of his renovation. Sustainability, domesticity, and responsibility have become important elements in interior design.
Finnish wood is an ecological choice because transportation causes less environmental impact. Additionally, wood is easily recyclable and durable. Besides wood, flax textiles and natural stone were also used.
