The 2024 interior design trends emphasize sustainable choices and eco-friendly materials. Warm peach tones dominate the trend colors, and Finnish pine continues to rise as a favorite in interiors.

Cozy and individuality are key when creating a unique and sustainable home for 2024. In this article, we share our tips for next year's interior design!

1. Durable materials and responsibility

In 2024, a key interior design trend is the use of durable and maintainable materials. Quality gains value as disposable culture gives way to long-lasting and timeless purchases. So invest in quality and make choices carefully. Favor timeless, environmentally friendly, and high-quality products that not only fill their space beautifully but also stand the test of time. Sustainable interior design is an investment not only in the environment but also creates a home where you enjoy staying for a long time.

Updating interiors doesn't always require new purchases. Furniture and other decor items can be well acquired second-hand; not everything has to be new. Whether it's an old cabinet or other furniture, customizing can bring them up to date! Try, for example, customizing an old cabinet with semi-circular moldings – this is how you make an old piece of furniture look modern and unique. You can find ideas and instructions for this here.

2. The trend color of 2024 is warm peach

Peach-toned Peach Fuzz is the trend color of 2024 named by the Pantone Color Institute. The same color palette is also reflected in the color named by Tikkurila for next year "Nude in Nice". The peach-toned beige color is at once warm, sunny, and wonderfully playful.

Next year, the trend-conscious decorator will also include various shades of blue in their color palette. Blue will surely be seen in warm shades leaning slightly towards violet, as well as in fresher water blue shades. We also predict that natural green will continue its popularity especially in interior design.

3. Finnish pine - an old classic in a new light

Naturalness and wood materials remain strongly at the top of interior design trends. In wood materials, the naturalness of the wood is allowed to show. Surface treatment is either left completely undone or a treatment that preserves a natural finish, heat treatment, or dark brown shade is chosen.

Among wood species, especially Finnish pine is currently strongly trending. The material is seen in ceiling and interior panels, slats and moldings, as well as furniture. Additionally, we predict seeing the material in new innovative forms and roles.

4. Coziness, togetherness, and nest-like feeling

Cherish coziness and togetherness in next year's interior design. Focus especially on the home's common areas and decorate the spaces so that it is easy and comfortable to gather together with family and friends.

Create a lovely nest-like atmosphere in your home by choosing soft textiles such as wool, velvet, linen, and cotton. Choose natural materials like wood for surface materials. The feeling of coziness can also be enhanced with small details like lighting, candles, and scents.

4.1 How to create a nest-like atmosphere with wood materials

Easily create a nest-like atmosphere, for example by paneling. Use wood paneling or slats on both the ceiling and walls. You can either panel both the walls and ceiling with the same panel or use, for example, slats on the ceiling treated in the same shade as the room's walls. Favor natural treatments or use warm tones.

The “nest” created for our Habitare fair stand, designed by Jutta Tanninen, was one of our stand's favorites and received a lot of admiration! Many fair visitors stopped by this wood-scented nest to relax in the middle of a busy fair day.

All the walls of the nest were paneled with soft-shaped pine finger-jointed panels. A cozy pine floor was chosen for the floor and pine slats for the ceiling. All nest materials were treated with a colorless protective agent to bring out the natural tone of the pine.

5. Individuality and personal solutions

This year's interior design has individuality as the key word. Boldly create an interior that looks just like you and let your personality show in your interior choices. Individual solutions can be seen in furniture selection, personal belongings, or unique ideas.

Be bold in playing and experimenting with new, maybe even somewhat unusual ideas! What if you made an entire wall made of ceiling moldings or you would cover the doors with finger-jointed paneling? Or how about a personalized slat wall made of round moldings? Forget the rules and let your imagination fly!
